i recall reading from one source how babies were overcome by the heat at a jw convention, with at least one death.. if i'm not mistaken, this was in houston, texas, at the astrodome.. the story goes that doctors at the convention wanted an advisory about the heat read from the platform, but convention officials refused, stating that only wt related material was to be read.. it was stated that the doctors became so upset at this that they quit the wt on the spot!.
has anyone else heard or read that story?.

Here in the UK it does not normally get that hot, but once at Crystal Palace, probably late 1980's or early 1990's it was particularly hot. All through the sessions there were warnings read out about sunstroke and keeping young children especially, out of the sun. Water was brought round during the sessions even and people encouraged to drink regularly.

It was supposed to come before I started to school. As I am now mid 60's unlikely in my lifetime.
When, and if it does come it will probably as a result of some third world country developing nuclear weapons, not as means of clearing the earth for JW's to live in 'paradise'.

As you will be witnessing you will have to wear a suit whilst hiking of course!

Many kids like me who were born in the 1940's never had vaccinations against whooping cough or measles because of the WTS stand against such vaccinations at that time. I believe it was C J Woodworth who said "vaccinations never saved a single life!". That attitude continued for many many years. I wonder how many lives that policy claimed before being quietly abandoned?

well 2 years later, i'm a big boy, turned 18 and moved out.
Never been in your position but having moved out and made the break at 18 I would NEVER GO BACK! I was over 60 when I found out so I really jealous of your decision at such an early age.
Stick in there, you will make friends (real friends, not conditional on your beliefs, sexuality etc) and fill your life with good things to do. Are you planning on College or University? Plan for the future, Armageddon is NOT coming any time soon.

if so - without divulging any names , approximately how much was donated to the wt society ?
if you are aware of approximate amounts.
as many know the wt society yearly puts out calls in their publications for witnesses to donate trust funds, wills, inheritances, estates, jewelry, cars and whatever else they have to promote the aleged " kingdom interests " in furthering the " good news " around the world.. personally i feel it's all been a scam to continue exercising control over witnesses by influencing them to financially deprive themselves so the wt society can continue it's operations.
Furthermore, I also searched for the Worldwide Work - this charity seems to have closed several years ago. Where does money donated to them now go?

The new songs with vocal renditions (Disc 2) were playing before the meeting last night. As everyone walked in they were looking dumbfounded as to what this awful music was. Lots of very critical comments followed by embarrassment when they found out what they were!

yes, i too have wondered how an assembly that is held in a fully paid for assembly hall, with no food service, could possibly have $10,000 in expenses.
i suppose the bethel speakers have transportation expenses - maybe $1000 or so.
as for rent on the assembly hall, well you have already paid for it once, why pay again?
Our congregation, and I suspect most others, send money up front before each assembly/convention. The last convention we sent £1,000 and we are a very small congregation.
In addition to that we send money every month for the local assembly hall maintenance and money for the CO's flat and a regular donation to the WTS.
They still beg for more!
